This morning the girls had the opportunity to once again work with the Muslim women of Hamtramck. Today, however, the girls split into two groups, one team working with those prepping for the citizenship test and the other team (Mollie and I) got to work with four Bangladeshi women who were learning English. Teaching English was really fun. We walked up to the area where the women were already seated, were given a 30 second summary of what we were supposed to do, and then were left to our own devices! The women knew varying levels of English but each was eager to learn. For the last 45 minutes Mollie and I wrote words up on the board and the ladies would spell them and then try to sound them out. We managed to get to know these women quite well despite the language barrier and one of the ladies would not let us leave without a hug. It was an amazing opportunity to connect with women from another culture and an experience that I'll never forget.
